Life Coaching For Sustainable Change
In my last article, I talked about how to change yourself to change the world. But, let’s admit it that change is not easy. You can ask anyone who has tried to change something in his life; the answer would be the same. Even though change is hard, it is necessary for most people at some point in their lives. Change is the critical step towards developing your potential to reach your goals. This is true for personal and professional life both. This is the point where people need support to make the process of change easier for them. And, for this, they need a life coach.
Although, they can find support within their family and friends circle but seeking professional help is something that can bring a life-enhancing change with life-long sustainable results.
We, at MUMKIN, work as professional life and business coaches to help and support people in a variety of career stages, roles, industries, and countries. We have worked with hundreds of clients and have identified evidence-based strategies that really give results. We are a pioneer in using gender-based intelligence in our coaching practice and use forward-focused and solution-based coaching to empower our clients so that they can face their challenges positively. We equip them to become their best selves.
The Five Stages of Intentional Change Theory
Intentional Change Theory was developed by Richard Boyatzis that explains five stages of creating a long-lasting change.
- Envision The Ideal You
Create a personal vision, i.e. who you wish to be and what you want to do in your life. Having a clear vision helps you set realistic goals.
- Explore The Real You
This stage is about comparing your real self to the ideal self and to find out the gaps that must be filled in order to reach your goals. This comparison results in an assessment of one’s strengths and weaknesses.
- Develop An Action Plan
This step is about creating a road map for turning aspirations into reality. You need to create a learning agenda and an action plan to follow. Set realistic goals and work on a plan that focuses on your development.
- Experiment And Practice
Once, your action plan is ready, the next step is to try it out. Experiment and practice with new behaviors and habits.
- Get Support
Change is hard and to stick to your action plan, you will need constant support. A good coach will help you through this process. Our life coaches listen to their clients attentively and offer compassion to their clients. We help them explore their vision, spot the learning opportunities, set the groundwork and see things through. We help them develop a framework that will support them in their lives to face challenges.
Let’s discuss how a life coach helps you become what you want to be!
Spotting the Learning Opportunities
Our coaches look for coachable moments when they interact with their clients. These are the opportunities that a life coach can identify to help his/her clients with their development plan. Some clients are more mindful of the circumstances and they know that they must shift gears while others only have a vague idea that things are not right in their lives.
A life coach helps in developing clarity about where a client needs to work first and help him see learning opportunities.
Setting the Groundwork
We at MUMKIN believe that people can succeed more if they are in a positive state of mind. Therefore, we coach them with compassion to develop a deep relationship with them. Compassionate life coaching helps our clients discover their ideal self, their strengths, and weaknesses.
Later, our life coaches guide their clients towards an accurate and honest assessment of their real-self. It is not just about listing down clients’ strengths and weaknesses rather we take into consideration what clients know about themselves in addition to their understanding of how other experiences and think of them.
The purpose at this point is to recognize the areas where our clients’ perceptions are different from others and, to be more decisively, whether their ideal self and real self are aligned or not.
After that, the next step is to develop an action plan to help the client move from point A to point B. The concept is to allow the clients to feel uplifted and energized to improve. For that reason, the coach focuses on the existing strengths of the clients and helps them develop an action plan that bridges the gap between their ideal self and real self.
Seeing Things Through
Change requires constant efforts, time and energy; and even then it takes some time to fully establish the new behavior or habit. Relationship management, anger management, and new skill-building require even more commitments and dedication.
A big part of a life coach’s job is to keep his clients accountable for their actions and keep them motivated to move in the right direction. Our life coaches encourage their clients to experiment with new habits and behaviors, try different tactics and then practice what proves to be the most effective.
Our life coaches will review the action plan every week to see where the client is progressing and what needs to be changed. This constant track system helps clients to stay motivated and committed to their goals.
We build a relationship with our clients and provide relentless support throughout the coaching period. You can share your experiences with us about how life coaching changes your life. And, if you have not yet experienced the power of life coaching, then we invite you to have a free one-on-one coaching session with one of our coaches.
